Overnight Public Safety Precautions

Please be advised that, at the request of the Chicago Police Department’s (CPD) 12th District, we are sharing the following information promptly.

While CPD does not expect civil unrest to occur, in light of yesterday’s shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, WI, some public safety precautions are in place this evening from 8PM-5AM tomorrow morning. There are currently no changes to public transportation and no access points in place for Downtown.

However, West Loop businesses are asked to double-check their overnight security. CPD recommends additional safety precautions, including removing merchandise from windows displays and protecting glass storefronts with locked roller shutters. Verify surveillance equipment is operating normally, too.

Every business owner should sign up for the CHIBIZ Emergency Alert system by texting “CHIBIZ” to 6-7-2-8-3 or by visiting chicago.gov/chibizalerts. Through this program, business owners will receive targeted emergency alerts.

CPD is prioritizing resources at retail corridors throughout the City, with enhanced downtown deployment inside the Central Business District from 8PM-5AM:

• All downtown bridges are raised.

• Michigan Avenue assets are staged from Oak Street to Wacker Drive, with additional assets staged at the LSD/Oak Street/Michigan exit.

• Lake Shore Drive (LSD) assets are staged from 18th Street to Oak Street.

• Illinois State Police are on site at the following Expressway locations: the Ohio feeder, I-290 eastbound, and the exits at Ogden Street, Washington Street, Monroe Street, Jackson Street, and Roosevelt Road.
